Bio / Taylor Freeman
The American dream is to worship abundance and mistake accumulation for meaning. I make images that promise fulfillment through exaggeration and irony to the point of absurdity. Mass consumerism has become our collective sense of reality and the scenes I create refuse the satisfaction of that very spectacle. The end goal is to make the viewer as uncomfortable as possible with things they would see everyday. Technology, medicine, fashion, the bible, noodles, lots and lots of noodles. Things that people know how to use or interact with in a specific way and then showcasing them in a way that is inherently wrong. In a world where everything is trying to sell you something, my art sells you the disgust of overconsumption. Unusual saturated messes that force the viewer to gorge themself to understand why they cannot look away. Twisting the seductive nature of aesthetics, I emphasize the fact that our modern lives are full of mass-produced pleasures that crumble as fast as they are created. By appropriating our carefully curated digital culture, I cook up a visual banquet that will leave you feeling empty and hungry for more.
